Our Trips

Hot Tuna Charter offers canyon and inshore fishing trips, as well as inshore cruises.  Departing from NC in the winter/spring and NJ in summer/fall, we are available for tournament and recreational fishing. Novice and experienced anglers are welcome. The big game fish we chase include tuna, marlin, shark, bluefish, striped bass, bonito, and dolphin (mahi-mahi).

The Boat

The Hot Tuna is a well-maintained, clean and comfortable 38' Blackfin Sport Fisherman residing in New Jersey in the summer and North Carolina in the winter. The boat can accommodate up to six persons, in addition to the experienced Captain and mate.

Equipped with twin 670 horsepower diesels, the Hot Tuna has a cruise speed exceeding 25 knots. Its generator not only powers the air conditioning, heat, and microwave, but also the underwater spot light and spreader lights for night “chunking”.

State of the art electronics and safety gear are always on board, including 4 VHF radios, a single sideband, satellite telephone, radar, a color fish finder, 2 GPS Plotters, water temp gauge, autopilot, DVD player with flatscreen, EPIRB, AED, and 8-person life raft.

Tackle on the boat is of the highest quality, including Penn Internationals, all the way to 130 lbs if required.

Hot Tuna was awarded 1st place Overall Blue Marlin Champion in a Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club Invitational tournament. Ninety-two boats participated. The winning fish was caught  in 1000 fathoms between Wilmington and Baltimore Canyon.  The Hot Tuna  lost one 30 feet from the boat (stainless hook bent--no longer allow them on the boat) just South of Hudson Canyon at 500 fathoms.  Both estimated to be in the 250-300 range.
